Today I visited an old factory in Ostrava, a city known to some as the steel city or even the steel heart of the Czech Republic. Why? Because of the legendary Vítkovice Ironworks, which has always been synonymous with quality production of railway rails. And did you know that the whole of Central Europe still runs on rails made of Ostrava iron? Amazing, isn't it😄
But let me reassure you that the ironworks are not operating as they used to. It has been turned into a museum where you can see what it was like in this huge industrial complex. I felt like a time traveller as I walked through the rooms where iron ore was once smelted and iron was made. I almost expected an old master to appear around the corner with a glowing piece of iron in his hands!
A lookout tower has been built at the top of one of the smelting complexes, where there is also a café. And it's not just any tower - it's called Bolt's Tower because Usain Bolt himself visited it! Yes, the Usain Bolt who is faster than your last pizza delivery😋 His signature there proves that I have truly been to the place where speed and power meet.
After the tour, I had to treat myself to a nice lunch in a real Czech restaurant, of course😻 What can I say? Homemade gulash, dumplings and beer were the perfect end to my industrial day.
